Great Orleansicana Music

WHAT: Citing DeSoto Street Band's creation of "great Orleansicana music," New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin has proclaimed December 12, 2008 as DeSoto Street Band Day.

Orleansicana is Americana music with a New Orleans flavor. "Americana is a type of music that is played on acoustic instruments; it has roots in blues, country and bluegrass,"
explains band member Robert Eustis. "Orleansicana is Americana music with an inherent New Orleans vibe."

Desoto Street Band's high ranging vocal harmonies and instrumental synergies created and identified Orleansicana.


Mayor Nagin's proclamation coincides with the band's eponymous CD release (Little King Records).
